This memorial website was created to remember Dennis "Denny" D. Whitehouse who was born in Peoria, Illinois on August 1, 1947 and passed away on April 15, 2008. He will live forever in our memories and hearts.

Dennis “Denny” D. Whitehouse, 60, of Peoria, passed away at 2:24 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Dennis was born on August 1, 1947 in Peoria, a son of George W. and Olly M. (Brown) Whitehouse. They preceded him in death. He married Rebecca L. Barthell on August 13, 1966 in Peoria at Charter Oak Bible Church. She survives.

Dennis is also survived by his mother-in-law, Eleanor L. Barthell of Peoria, whom he called “mom”; daughters, Amy L. (Walt) Zessin of Yates City and Tammy L. DeVita (Mike Behm) of Creve Coeur; son, Dennis Todd (Angie) Whitehouse of Fiatt; 10 grandchildren; brother, Larry W. (Judy) Whitehouse of Manito; family friend, Scott DeVita of East Peoria; and his faithful companion, Dasy Mae.

Dennis appreciated all of the help he received during his illness from his “brother”, Dave Barthell; sister-in-laws; and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from September 23, 1966 to September 22, 1969. He was in the Military Police and earned the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar. He was a member of the Peoria VFW Post 814 and the newly formed Peoria Heights American Legion Post 1111.

Dennis was formerly the Safety Director for Cox Transfer in Peoria and drove for over 17 years at various Peoria area trucking companies. Denny was really a “jack-of-all-trades”.

He was a member and song leader of the former First Missionary Baptist Church in Peoria. He was a fan of all music, but the Gaither Brothers were his favorite performers. His favorite songs were “Amazing Grace” and “Mansion over the Hilltop”.

Dennis was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, gardening and raising quail, rabbits and pigeons. His best times were spent in his garden and camping. He loved all of the holidays, especially Christmas and the Fourth of July.

His family is proud of him for being a hard worker, for the way he raised his children and the love he showed for his grandchildren. They were his life. He was very family oriented.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008, at Swan Lake Memory Chapel in Peoria, with Pastor Greg Ogle officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Honor Guard will be provided by The Patriot Guard Riders in Illinois. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens, with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery at 4234 N. Knoxville, Peoria, IL 61614.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home in Peoria.
